Email and Internet
This course is one that most people have in mind when they start at SeniorNet.
It can be taken in 2 quite separate parts, each for 4 weeks - Email, and
Internet; or the various lessons will shortly be offered as separate 2-hour
lessons, provided that you have knowledge of the prerequisites for each.
The 2 courses, or the separate components take you through a full understanding
of broadband access for e-mail with reference also to dial-up, address books,
handling attachments, making up folders, setting layouts and options, and
creating a useful tool-bar. You will also learn the best techniques to search
the Internet and to extend that into a useful retrieval system (Favorites, or
Bookmarks), and to use your normal computer functions for the areas of News and
Webmail, etc. Without undertaking this course, most people never get to use a
fraction of the useful facilities available. We use both Internet Explorer
and Outlook Express 8
(on Windows XP),
or Windows Mail (on Windows Vista). We
also learn email security, stationery, how to send one email to several
recipients at once, and understand how best to send digital photographs to
friends, and many other tricks.
It is necessary to have completed at least Word Processing (in 1.3 or 1.4
above) to be confident in this course. Tell us which one you have when booking
a place.
